Smyth Realiser A8 Demo

Welcome to the Smyth Realiser online demo page.

All the demos are digital recordings of the processed output from the Smyth Realiser A8.

One danger of posting demo files is that many people may find that the simulation does not work for them. Then they walk away with a negative impression of the Realiser.

Please bear in mind that the Realiser definitely works really well, but ONLY if you do a personal measurement of a system with YOUR ears using in-ear microphones suppied with the Realiser hardware.

Here's a few more notes about this demo:

• Since there is no head tracker, the effect works best if you don’t move your head. (Normally with the Realiser head tracker, the Realiser will keep the speaker locations stable even when you move your head.)
  
  
• These demos are not 100% since they were done using my ears (DarinF) and not yours. So depending on how close your ear shape is to mine, you may or may not get the full effect or any effect. For some it may just sound really weird.
  
  
• These files were also recorded without any headphone EQ. (Normally the Realiser will measure your headphones and apply an EQ to flatten out the response with your ears.)
  
  
• If you want to listen to the Realiser calibrated to YOUR ears, please contact me about scheduling a complete demo of the Realiser in San Diego. I can do a full measurement with your ears and then you can get a more accurate effect.
  
  
• You can download the .wav files below. The files MUST be played through headphones. You will not get the effect by playing through speakers!
  
  
• The quality of your headphones will also greatly affect how well the demo files work. As with the actual Realiser processor, it requires very accurate/high end headphones to accurately simulate the sound of high end speaker systems. You can't expect $10 ear buds to be able to reproduce the sound of a $30,000 pair of speakers, right? (However, I get great results from a $40 pair of headphones: Koss PortaPro Headphones )

Here’s a description of the files in the demo. Just click on the links to download/listen to the .WAV files:

Realiser Speaker Demo 7.0 – This demo plays a music loop from each of the virtual 7 speakers. You should hear a fairly localized sound coming from each speaker. Close your eyes and imagine exactly where each speaker is in the room relative to you.

Realiser SVS on-off – This demo starts off with the “speaker” effect on. Then it cycles through turning the effect on and off. When the effect is off, you are hearing the two channel music fed directly to each ear as with traditional headphones. When the SVS effect is on, you should hear the sound coming from two speakers in front of you.

Realiser Multi system Demo Tone – This demo plays the same music loop but cycles through different speaker systems. Each system was measured with different speakers, amps, preamps, and rooms. You should be able to hear the differences in each system including the room acoustics.

Realiser Multi System Demo Vivaldi– This demo is the same as the one above, but with music instead of the music loop.

Realiser Pink Floyd "Money" 5.1 Music Demo – This is the a Pink Floyd 5.1 surround source processed through the Realiser. It's an example of 5.1 channel music being played through a 5.1 surround speaker system.

Realiser Transformers 5.1 Demo– This is the beginning of the Transformers movie played back with 5.1 channels of audio. You should be able to hear a full 5.1 surround sound speaker system.

Realiser Master and Commander 5.1 Demo – This is the beginning of the Master and Commander movie played back with 5.1 channels of audio. You should be able to hear a full 5.1 surround sound speaker system.

Realiser Charlie Hunter Demo – This is the a Charlie Hunter song processed through the Realiser. It's just an example of two channel music being played through a two channel speaker system.

Realiser Classical Music Demo – This is a full orchestral piece processed through the Realiser. This particular system was in a very bright room, so you should hear a lot of room reflections/interactions.

Realiser Female Vocals Demo – This is a female jazz vocal song processed through the Realiser. It's just an example of two channel music being played through a two channel speaker system.
